I absolutely love laid-back clients, and Ryan and Eliotte were as laid-back as you can get! These two met when they were in college. Ryan had signed up for a fundraising event in which he and his teammates had to perform a dance, and lo and behold, Eliotte was the dance coordinator. You would think that this story follows as is: Ryan outshined the rest of his teammates and won Eliotte’s hearts through his sly dance moves. Instead, he admitted that he often skipped the lessons and only till the performance day did he and Eliotte actually meet!
It quickly became apparent why these two make a great couple. Throughout the whole session, they could not stop smiling and laughing. Even when I was at the top of the cliff and photographing down at them from afar, I could hear them laughing away, haha.
When I met Jen and Jim for their engagement session, they had just landed in Los Angeles a mere few hours prior. You see, they’re from Sacramento, and the day after their engagement session is actually their wedding day! This is an unusual circumstance to have an engagement session so close to the wedding day, mainly because many couples use these images for their ‘save the date’ or announcement of their wedding.
However, I am so happy we were still able to do Jim and Jen’s engagement session irregardless of dates. One of the reasons is because during this session, it allows the clients and I to get familiarized with each other so that, on the day of the wedding, they are comfortable and relaxed enough with me to let me in their personal space.
Photographing Jen and Jim for this session was a blast. They were so cute together! Because their wedding would be a beach wedding, they wanted their engagement photos to be on the beach as well. In one of the photos, you can see Shutters on the Beach in the background, which is where they’ll be having their reception on their wedding day. You can see Santa Monica Pier in the distance in some of these images as well, and I absolutely love them!
Something that I’ve always loved about shooting on-location instead of in a studio is that I get to visit new and unexplored locations! I totally love it when clients pick a location that I’ve never been to! In this case, Sara and Paul wanted their engagement photos to be in a hip street in Venice called ‘Abbot Kinney’ that’s filled with boutiques and earthy restaurants.
We visited a couple of places, including a pizza place called Gjelina and a coffee shop named Intelligensia, and then roamed the somewhat hidden Venice Canal.
Sara and Paul were such a cute couple to photograph! Paul admitted he thinks he’s horrible in photos, but my gosh, he did so well! And Sara was so fearless when I asked them to go where no human really wants to go – near spiders!
I’m so looking forward to photographing your wedding this fall!
On a beach in Malibu, tucked away in an area known as ‘Paradise Cove’, lies Kaveer’s one year birthday party. It was held in a cabana, surrounded by a white picket fence with gorgeous green plants on one side, and the crashing waves on the other. The sun was just calming down as I arrived on the scene, and Kaveer’s guests, who had previously all been wearing sunhats, began to feel the freedom of having their hair be blown by the sweet breeze of the ocean.
Like many of us when we step foot onto the beach, Kaveer had a fascination with the sand. Whenever he wasn’t being carried off by a family member sporting a yellow outfit, he liked to spend his time on the sandy ground, exploring the wonders of the little gray particles. He also wondered constantly why so many eyes were upon him, smiling with contentment, as he studied the sand.
The yellow bow tie that Kaveer wore loosened as the party progressed. In that time frame, the sun was just setting, birthday candle flames had been blown out, and everyone had eaten either milk or burger. Needless to say, it was a smashing party.
Happy first birthday to Kaveer, who looked just ravishing in his yellow bow tie, fedora hat, and nautical striped shirt!
It was a gloomy day in Venice Beach (side note: it seems almost every time I head out to the beach, it’s gloomy!) and not many people were frolicking in the sand. No worries, as this was perfect for our shoot with Ivy and Trent as we basically had the beach to ourselves!
Ivy and Trent met online through a dating website. Neither of them were originally from Los Angeles. After living here for a while, they both decided they wanted to meet other people and created their online profiles. Month after this decision, our couples photo session occurred, haha.
Thank you, Ivy and Trent, for having me as your couples photographer
