Natalia’s Backyard First Birthday

SANTA CLARITA, CALIFORNIA

It’s always a pleasure seeing familiar faces, and this was the case when I photographed Natalia’s first birthday event. The first time I met Natalia’s mom, Melissa, she was officiating her sister Alex’s wedding, to which I was the photographer. And now, I had the honor of capturing another one of their family’s milestone events.

Natalia’s birthday party was held at her aunties’ beautiful backyard in Santa Clarita, California. The weather was absolutely beautiful and perfect. Just prior to the start of the party, the family held a small ceremony in the living room and announced Alex and Lucia as Natalia’s godmothers. The celebration continued with close family and friends, and a rather cheerful birthday girl.

Maya’s First Birthday Party in Marina Del Ray

MARINA DEL RAY, CALIFORNIA

During one of Southern California’s famous heatwave, Maya held her outdoor birthday party. Thankfully, she held it right by the marina! The breeze was very welcoming, just as much as the smiles on the faces of everyone that attended. And of course, Maya’s smile was the biggest of them all. She looked so cute with her felt-and-glitter tiara!

Connor’s ‘Giving Tree’ Themed First Birthday

LA CAÑADA, CALIFORNIA

I recently had the honor of photographing little Connor’s first birthday in the La Cañada Country Club and its theme was ‘The Giving Tree’, based on Shel Silverstein’s kids book. I personally love the book and seeing it as a theme for a birthday party made it that much more fun to photograph! All the little details that they put together is just astounding!

Having photographed Connor’s big brother Colin’s first birthday a few years back, it was such a treat to meet up with this family once again over another joyous occasion. Connor looks so much like his brother, especially as they’re both wearing light denim button-up shirts and khaki pants for both occasions, hehe.

Ethan and Ella’s Joint Birthday

WOODLAND HILLS, CALIFORNIA

It’s always a pleasure to photograph a client through more than one life milestone. The first time I photographed this family was when Ethan had his first birthday two years ago. Then, his mother’s maternity portraits the year after. And now – I can’t believe how time has passed – it’s Ethan’s 3rd birthday and Ella’s 1st birthday joint party!

Their birthday bash was at the indoor playground Kids Ahoy! and they had the cutest theme of the sea. Both Ella and Ethan were met with many hugs and kisses by the adults, and many friends to play with. Adorably, one of Ella’s baby friends dressed exactly the same as her without intending to, from the flamingo dress to the metallic fringe shoes (photo below)!

Hunter

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

During the younger years of my life, I had a long lists of possible careers that interested me. I wanted to be a writer, an animator, a restaurant-owner, a cafe-owner, a librarian, a web-designer, and the list just keeps continuing. Let’s just say that so many things in the world interests me. But recently, I’ve obviously become more attuned to the more artistic careers.

However, as I stepped into this particular birthday party of Hunter’s, I began to remember an old dream of mine – to learn how to fly a plane and soar through the clouds. It seems that Hunter had the same dream.

Starting from the airplane balloons strapped to the porch all the way to the gorgeous biplane-topped cake, it was clear that Hunter and his family wanted to take his guests on a ride of a lifetime. As I met the little guy, it was also clear that he was not used to having so many guests staring at him and overtaking his backyard. Apprehensively, he walked around the party floor, greeting many guests with a confused look while holding his darling mother’s hand. But as the party progressed, shy Hunter became as calm and cool as his blue hawaiian shirt.
