A few weeks ago, I tried a new genre of photography that had intrigued me. It was a raw genre, and had to be done very photojournalistically. This genre, that’s quite becoming a thing, is birth photography.
I stumbled upon this genre quite randomly, to the point that I forget how. But when I initially saw images of mothers in the midst of giving birth – the emotions of anxiety, the facial expressions of fear and happiness, and the grit that is the act of giving birth – I was blown away. I wanted to be part of it.
So when Lethy approached me to photograph her maternity photos and baby shower, I knew I wanted to photograph Little Mateo’s birth.
When it was about two weeks prior to Mateo’s due date, I kept my phone on and never dare let it die. I would sporadically wake up in the middle of the night thinking I had missed a text/phone call when really, Lethy and Mark were sleeping soundly in their own bed!
Then, the day came. I rushed over to the hospital and then it all started to unfold…
Little Mateo is finally here! And he is such a cutie! Congratulations Mark and Lethy!
